Ch. 3 - Ethics and Social Responsibility

a situation where the company lived up to its social responsibility or a lapse in social responsibility -

One Web socio-economic model integrates social responsibility with its business operations and product design to keep outer space, as well as the environment here on Earth, free of debris and pollutants. The company takes pride in several corporate responsibility business platforms that include Project Sunrise, a job and sustainable use of Space partnership with the European Space Agency, and the Sustainable Space Program. (article) Project Sunrise is a private/public partnership whose primary business model is to "developing a worldwide communications network based on a proprietary satellite-constellation". Based on sustainability in space, One Web’s socio-economic business model and state-sponsored partnership may also be based on self-interest to reduce the number of unregulated satellites from launching into space that would also include competitors seeking to tap in on the multi billion dollar internet satellite industry.

Currently, there are an estimated 57,000 satellites expected to orbit the Earth by 2029. Many astronomers and scientists believe the commercial space industry is headed for a disaster collision with older, dead satellites already in Earth's orbit.

One Web recently signed a subcontract with an Italian based space company D-Orbit Spa (article). Active in debris removal and in collaboration with the ESA this initiative is based on years of independent research and addresses the ethical issues related to launching thousands of satellites in Earth's orbit simply for profit and personal financial gain.  Keeping space clean for everyone is fundamentally a public good.

Ch. 2 -Strategic Planning for Competitive Advantage

One Web’s product differentiation as the world’s first-ever high-volume microsatellite mass production facility will re-engineer the way consumers access the internet. Potential demand will require significant funding while competing with large players such as SpaceX, but the market opportunity for their niche product has a cost-competitive advantage.

Ch. 1 - An Overview of Marketing

One Web, a communications company in the New Space industry, was founded by Greg Wyler in Arlington, VA in 2012. The first of six of One Web's micro-satellites, in a constellation that will eventually encompass a network of 650 or more, are currently circling in low earth orbit (LEO)

One Web's Mission Statement is:

Make a world of difference by creating fast, easy connectivity solutions powered by our satellites.
OneWeb's mission to make a world of difference has made us first-movers in the field of Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite telecommunications. Our solutions will shape the world, connecting everywhere to everyone, to help bridge the digital divides that exist so nobody gets left behind.

As leaders in this endeavor, OneWeb recognizes the need to develop and deploy technology according to best-practises that sustain the responsible management and best-use of our Space environment for everybody, for all future generations to come. We call this Responsible Space. You can find out more about our key commitments to Responsible Space here.

Who Am I?
OneWeb's Who Am I? campaign, which launched in 2019, communicates founder Greg Wyler's pledge to the many who are not yet connected. OneWeb's focus on connecting schools that have yet to experience the benefits of the Internet has been integral to the company's vision since launch. Each of OneWeb's first six satellites are dedicated to remote schools around the world that will join the global digital community through OneWeb's network powered by satellite.
